Smooth
Fitness Treadmill Review : How to Select A
Treadmill
Detailed Reviews
to Help You Select the Right Smooth
Fitness Treadmill

Hi, Welcome to the Smooth Fitness Treadmill
Review site. Our goal is to assist you in researching the right
treadmill price for YOU based on your preferences. One of the
biggest trends in the home fitness industry has been the explosive
growth in the treadmill buyer sector since this is the only
exercise equipment that very naturally copies the human walking and
running movements without any artificial motions of the body.In
fact, treadmills have also had the lowest return rates of all
exercise and fitness equipment since its ease and simplicity in
operation are quickly adapted by fitness users.
First, here are a few tips before we explore the various criteria
involved in buying a treadmill.
-
Never ever buy a treadmill based on any one person's opinion. This
is why you will see us provide detailed reviews and criteria for
the various Smooth Fitness brands, but you will ultimately have to
make the decision on whether this is the right model for
you
-
Always read treadmill reviews from authority sites such as ours
before you invest your time and money in getting
treadmill
-
Never buy a cheap non-branded assembled-for-use treadmill sold by
many websites. All you will get is more trouble in maintenance and
repairs, not to mention the poor equipment quality
-
Don't be obsessed with the specs and horsepower. They are only
minor criteria involved in buying a treadmill. The bigger factors
are what we will cover in the rest of this section.
-
To buy the right Smooth Fitness Treadmill, there are various
criteria that come into play and are equally
important...
Price : Make sure you are clear about how much you
are planning to spend on a treadmill. Typically, avoid treadmills
in the sub $1000 range sold by other cheaper brands. You will end
up spending more in replacement parts over the next 3-5 years. On
an average, you can get a good treadmill for around
$1000-$1200.
Weight of the User: Most basic treadmills are built for user weight
of around 220 lbs. If you or others in your family weight more than
220 lbs, we recommend investing in a more powerful motor and a
higher grade treadmill belt. The motor power is important is since
almost all home use treadmills have DC motors, that operate at
their highest capacity only when operated at the maximum speed. So,
if you walk at 5 miles per hour on a treadmill with a 2.5
horsepower motor, you will only use a minor fraction of the motor
power. So, a heavy person walking at a slower pace will result in
the motor getting heated up and causing multiple electronic
failures
Frame : Treadmills typically come in two
frame constructions - steel and aluminum. We recommend steel over
aluminum since steel frames have a greater efficient of restitution
(in layman's terms - a better rebound and spring action when your
feet hit the belt) and operate more quietly.
Motor : Now, this is one of those factors similar
to the wattage in stereo systems, where there is no absolute rating
on horsepowers. The only thing you have to go by is manufacturers
specifications based on their testing. So, a particular motor might
be classified as a 2.5 HP motor when operated under certain test
conditions. The same motor might be classified as a 4 HP motor by a
different manufacturer when tested differently. So, don't buy a
treadmill purely based on HP. Generally, most treadmills will
deliver identical horsepower under varying conditions.
Belts : Top quality treadmills have a two-layer
belt, with the top layer made of black polyurethane and the bottom
layer of a nylon-polyester composite. Typically, the bottom layer
starts wearing out first. From our study, Smooth Fitness Treadmill
belts are all tightly woven to last for thousands of hours without
any wear and tear. Many of their high end machines also come with a
4-ply or multi-composite belts that are typically geared towards
significant heavier loads or constant use throughout the day.
Console Electronics : Most treadmills have some
kind of electronic display in their consoles. A good example will
be hill profiles, custom exercise settings, burnt calories, heart
rate and even TVs!!!! Think about what you need in a display before
you buy a treadmill. This is an equally important criteria since
you will be interacting with the console when operating the
treadmill.
